It's a Girl

Jesse has really been enjoying her little book club group here in Cascade Locks. So many good people here! This month, the group planned on sharing poems in lieu of discussing a book they'd all read, so Jesse asked me to write one. Awesome! I've still been meaning to exercise my creative writing mind more lately, so this was a perfect opportunity to ease my way in. Hopefully it won't take me another 3 years to publish anything, but if it does, so be it. This one is titled "It's a Girl". Perhaps I'll explain some pieces of it a bit more later, but until then...

It's a Girl
A quiet wish that’s cautiously unearthed and set in place
That arms would hold and hands would cup the smallness of your face
A guarded hope discouraged by a facet of our roots
Has seemingly been rectified within a pure pursuit

With gratefulness that’s echoed to whatever will receive
To Cosmos, Gods and entities of which we may believe
A thankfulness beyond compare for life within our walls
For riddles pitting source and size eternally unsolved

With vessels cradled carefully in arms made to protect
As closing eyes feed urgency of days to resurrect
As crib and bed hold little ones with bodies tightly curled
We step into their prints as they illuminate our world

In High School I used to lock myself in my room and write. A LOT. You know, emo stuff. It was an excellent creative vehicle for me. I have high hopes of upping the frequency of my more serious writing. First step is to somehow calm down the squirrel in my brain. His name is restlessness.
